Fish Stocking

Professional Fisheries Services is licensed to sell gamefish and grass carp in Louisiana and Mississippi. For southern ponds of one surface acre or more, we usually recommend stocking largemouth bass, bluegills, redear sunfish (AKA chinquapins, shellcrackers, stump knockers, lake runners), fathead minnows (new ponds only), and channel catfish (optional). Black crappies are an option for large lakes, although these fish can cause problems and aren't recommended for trophy bass or bream lakes. Threadfin shad or gizzard shad can be stocked under certain conditions to provide additional forage, especially when large bass are desired.
